Sarah Wegrzyn Named Assistant Athletic Trainer

CHICAGO, Ill. – Illinois Tech Athletics is happy announce the addition of Sarah Wegrzyn to its staff as Assistant Athletic Trainer.  She joins the staff after working incrementally with Tech athletics since July 2017 through NovaCare Rehabilitation.

"Sarah's familiarity with our athletic training program was a real plus,” said Director of Athletics Joe Hakes. “Her background as an intercollegiate athlete will be an asset in connecting with our student-athletes.  She showed a strong sense of purpose in her field and she will be a great addition to our staff."

“I am incredibly excited about this opportunity,” said Wegrzyn. “Ever since I decided to pursue athletic training, I always wanted to work at the collegiate level, making this an amazing opportunity. I think the independence and prior experience at Illinois Tech will help me transition very easily into this position.”

Wegrzyn attended Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania where she received her degree in Athletic Training in May 2017.  She worked as a student athletic trainer while at Mercyhurst, primarily for wrestling, lacrosse, men’s basketball and softball.  Since then, Wegrzyn worked at NovaCore as an athletic trainer, where she also worked with teams at York High School, Addison Trail High School, Shepherd High School, and Loyola University.

“We are extremely excited to have Sarah as a part of the Illinois Tech family,” said Head Athletic Trainer Joe Rekruciak.  “I am confident that her passion of helping student-athletes to reach their maximum potential will allow her to excel in this position.”
