MSOE Downs Women's Volleyball Saturday

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Illinois Tech women's volleyball team continuted its short trip in Wisconsin with a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) contest at the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday afternoon. While all three sets were decided by five points or less, the Scarlet Hawks (3-13, 1-6 NACC) were defeated by the Raiders (8-12, 2-5 NACC) 3-0.

Set Scores

  • MSOE 3, Tech 0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22)

How it Happened

  • The Scarlet Hawks were the team to jump ahead in the first set, leading 7-4 before a 5-1 run gave the Raiders the advantage. While Tech was able to re-tie the score three different times, MSOE held on to go up 1-0.
  • Once again, Tech started strong in set two, building a 6-3 lead behind two Courtney Curcio aces. After several ties and lead changes, a seven-point run by the Raiders gave the hosts a 22-15 lead to ice the set.
  • In the third set, the Raiders led by as many as four early. However, the Scarlet Hawks came back to take a 15-14 lead on a Taylor Burton kill. With Tech up 21-18, a Raiders five-point run was enough to propel MSOE to a win. 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Burton was impressive. The junior tallied eight kills, a .412 hit percentage, and two block assists. 
  • Karen Marrufo-Zubaran had seven kills and 14 digs.
  • Curico tallied 15 digs and three aces from the libero position.
  • Allison Wilkins had 13 assists and three aces.

Stats to Know

  • Tech led 6-4 in the aces department, with Curcio and Wilkins combining for all six.
  • Kills were even at 31, but MSOE hit .127% compared to Tech's .026%.
  • Digs were slightly in favor of the Raiders 50-48.
