Chicago, Ill. - Zeng Wye Liew of men's swimming and diving and Brooke Rifkin of women's volleyball are the recipients of Scarlet Hawk of the Week honors for the week of October 6th.
Liew, a first-year IM, breaststroke and butterfly swimmer and Biomedical Engineering major from Subang Jaya, Malaysia, started his collegiate swimming career by posting two individual first-place finishes and a first-place relay team finish in all three of the events he competed in for the Scarlet Hawks dual meet at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater this past Saturday. Liew started out the day as the 2nd leg of the Scarlet Hawks winning 400-yard medley relay team (team time 3:35.22). He followed that up with a first-place finish in the 200-yard IM event with a time of 2:00.98. Liew capped off his day with another first-place finish, this time in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.29. Liew's performance helped the men's team claim a 143-128 victory over the Warhawks.
Rifkin, a junior libero and Finance major from Dallas, Texas, finished the week with 57 digs and a 4.75 digs per set average(well over her season average) as the Scarlet Hawks went 2-1 in match play. Included in Rifkin's performance as a career-high 29 dig effort in the Scarlet Hawks' 3-1 NACC win over CUC on Wednesday. Rifkin followed that up with 15 digs in the Hawks' 3-1 road win at Lake Forest on Friday, and 13 digs against Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday. Rifkin currently ranks 11th in the conference in digs per set with a 3.49 average.
