Chicago, Ill. - Sophia Halama of women's cross country and David Rodriguez of men's soccer are the recipients of Scarlet Hawk of the Week honors for the week of October 13th.
Halama, a senior Architecture major from Hudson, Wisconsin, finished in 5th place in the Scarlet Hawks final regular season meet of the season at the Wisconsin Private College Championships in Mequon, Wisconsin this past Saturday. Halama finished with a time of 24:23.9 in the women's 6k event, the fifth best time out of 73 runners in the race, and just a few ticks off her season's best time of 24:17.8 on September 20th, as Halama and the Hawks prepare for the NACC Championships on November 1st. Halama and her fellow seniors Rachel Brettin, Lane Regan and Mason Brewer will be recognized during Cross Country's Senior Night event Friday, October 24th at 7pm at nearby Dunbar Park.
Rodriguez, a junior goalkeeper and Aerospace Engineering & Applied Mathematics major from Newburgh, New York, backstopped the Scarlet Hawks to a 1-0-1 record in conference play last week to help the Hawks hold on to 5th place in the conference standings. Included in Rodriguez's performance was a season-high four-save effort in the 1-0 shutout of then second-place MSOE at home on Saturday. Rodriguez made key saves in the late stages of each half to preserve the victory, the Scarlet Hawks first win over MSOE in the program's history. For the week, Rodriguez finished with a 0.50 goals-against average and an .800 save percentage.
