Seniors Lead Way as Hawks Roll Past Blue Angels

Box Score

Chicago, IL – The Illinois Tech women's basketball team entered Keating Sports Center with determination as they were set to host the Mount Mary University Blue Angels on Monday night.  Prior to the game, the Scarlet Hawks honored their three senior members who are nearing the end of their IIT basketball careers.  It would prove to be a memorable night for them as the Hawks were impressive in a 67-33 victory.

Senior Lauren Capuano led Illinois Tech with 24 points and an astounding 26 rebounds in front of their largest home crowd of the year.  The other two Hawk seniors, Neilina Vierra and Michelle Arriola, contributed the next highest point total with 14 each.  Vierra also added six rebounds and three steals while Arriola chipped in five steals and four assists.

After the Blue Angels closed Tech's lead to 9-8 about six minutes into the game, the Hawks responded and never looked back.  They went on a 27-3 run to close out the half and headed into the locker room with a 35-11 lead.  The second half was more of the same as Illinois Tech continued with their dominating effort.  They would add 32 second half points and seal the much deserved victory.

"I'm very proud of our seniors for their commitment and effort this season and I was very excited that all three had a huge part in our victory last night," stated head coach Usha Gilmore.
