Dreilich's Late Tally Pushes Tech Past Carthage

CHICAGO, Ill.- Fighting heavy wins, cold temperatures, and a driving rain on the last day of the season, Illinois Institute of Technology pulled off a victory over a very talented Carthage College team on Wednesday night. The Scarlet Hawks won 4-3 at Stuart Field.

How it Happened

  • Carthage jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the 15th and 35th minutes to go up 2-0.
  • Just before halftime, Brandon Bortei-Doku put the Hawks on the board off of an Emmanuel Zambrano pass in the 42nd minute.
  • Tech would keep the momentum going past halftime, as this time, Bortei-Doku would find a teammate for a goal. Lucas Niehuns Antunes scored off Brandon's pass to tie the match at 2-2.
  • Tech scored in the 78th minute to start what would be a wild final stretch. Quentin Dreilich scored off assists from Niehuns Antunes and Noah Griffith to take a 3-2 lead.
  • Carthage, however, would respond quickly. Johnny Rimkus scored his second goal of the match in the 84th minute to re-tie the score.
  • In the match's final seconds, Dreilich found the back of the net for the second time in just over 10 minutes, scoring off assists from Bortei-Doku and Sergio Calvo de Leon to give Tech the victory.

  • Dreilich had his best offensive match of the season, scoring twice on both of his shots.
  • Bortei-Doku tallied a goal and two assists 
  • Niehuns Antunes scored, tallied an assist, and led Tech with seven shots.
  • Calvo de Leon, Griffith, and Zambrano all notched assists.
