Babusci Sets Kills Season-High in Friday Losses

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Illinois Institute of Technology men's volleyball team hit the court for some game action for the first time in 10 days on Friday, taking on Calumet College of St. Joseph and Cincinnati Christian at the Loras College Invitational. Tech dropped both matches 3-0.

How it Happened

  • Tech hit a higher percentage in the first set than CCSJ (.286 to .250), but the Crimson Wave still managed to take the set 25-17.
  • Tech's attacked slowed in the final two sets while CCSJ's offense found another gear, hitting .333% with 12 kills in set three. The Crimson Wave took the final two sets 25-16, 25-16.
  • Against Cincinnati Christian, the Scarlet Hawks jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set before the Eagles took control. The NAIA school went on to take the first set 25-18.
  • After CC took the second set by the same score, Tech battled in set three. The Scarlet Hawks kept things close for a large portion of the set, taking a few leads early and trailing just 20-19 late. However, the Eagles five of the set's final six points to win 3-0.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Alex Babusci became the first player in program history to record double-digit kills in a match, tallying 11 with a strong .368 hitting percentage against CCSJ. The senior was even stronger against the Eagles, tallying 15 kills.
  • If it wasn't for Babusci's double-digit performances, Michael Drews would have set a season-high mark for the Scarlet Hawks. Drews recorded nine in the CCSJ match before tallying five more against CC.
  • Andrew Woltman recorded a season-high 24 assists against the Crimson Wave. He followed that up with 23 against the Eagles.
  • Kyle Bumpass tallied two service aces against the Crimson Wave and added one more against CC.
  • Filip Letkiewicz collected three solo blocks on the day (two against CC, one against CCSJ).

Stats to Know

  • The Scarlet Hawks recorded one more assist than CCSJ (26-25).
  • Tech tallied two more digs than the Eagles (28-26).
