Rarick Goes for 29 and 15 in Loss

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball team hosted an high-powered Aurora offense on Wednesday night. The Scarlet Hawks held the nation's sixth-ranked offense to just 79 points, but fell 79-68.

How it Happened

  • After a back-and-forth early portion of the game, Aurora took control towards the middle of the first half. The Spartans built a 23-12 lead at the 8:37 mark behind baskets from Jordan and Jeremy LaGrone off the bench.
  • Tech, however, made a strong charge, as a 17-7 run that featured seven Samuel Rarick points put the Scarlet Hawks within three before Anthony Mosley Jr. made it 30-29 on a lay-up.
  • Aurora re-grouped before halftime to take a 40-35 lead going into the break. 
  • The Spartans kept the momentum going into the second half, jumping out to a 9-2 run to force Tech to use a timeout at the 16:08 mark.
  • Tech would hang around, but Aurora slowly built the lead to 19 at the 6:22 mark at 71-52.
  • Rarick scored seven to Tech's final 14 points, but the Spartans held on for the 79-68 win.

Scarlet Hawks Standouts

  • Rarick had arguably his best game of the season, posting season highs in points (29) and rebounds (15) to go along with a 70.6 shooting percentage (12-of-17).
  • Mosley Jr. hit the 20-point mark for the third straight contest, tallying 22 points

Aurora Notes

  • Tyler Hall led the Spartans with 15 points.

Stats to Know

  • Aurora came into tonight sixth in NCAA Division III in scoring at 97.6 points per game. The 79 points is the second fewest the Spartans have scored this season.
  • AU was 7-of-17 from three-point lad. Tech was 4-of-14.
  • Turnovers were even at 15.
  • Aurora outrebounded Tech 41-35.
