Women's Lacrosse Opens Season with Win over Loras

Box Score

CHICAGO, Ill. - Opening the season, home, and Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference schedules on Friday afternoon, the Illinois Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team put forth a strong performance. Tech never trailed in the contest en route to an 11-4 win over Loras College.

How it Happened

  • It didn't take long for the Scarlet Hawks to find the back of the net. Just 15 seconds into the match, a pair of freshman found the scoresheet for the first time in their collegiate careers. Alyssa DeLuca fired a great pass to Sarah Colby for her first collegiate goal.
  • Loras scored to even things up at 1-1 four minutes later, but Tech retook the lead at the 18:07 mark thanks to one of the team captains. Sophomore Sarah Maciorowski scored unassisted to give the Scarlet Hawks the advantage back.
  • It was the Isabel Fitzpatrick-Meyers show over the next few minutes, as the sophomore scored three unassisted goals in a span of just under five minutes to push the lead to 6-1.
  • Madison Meredith added a tally just before halftime, bringing the score to 7-1.
  • Colby started the scoring off again in the second half with a goal at the 27:34 mark.
  • After a Loras tally, DeLuca and Meredith scored to bring the score to 9-2. DeLuca's goal was courtsey of a pass from Taylor Thompson.
  • Loras would score twice more, but DeLuca gave Tech it's tenth goal of the game off of a Meredith pass with 8:31 left in the game.
  • The scoring was capped off by freshman Isabella Rubin, as the defender went coast to coast to score just 10 seconds after picking up a ground ball.
