Rubin's Big Game Leads Women's Lacrosse Past Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Illinois Tech women's lacrosse team played its third game in the state of Michigan this season on Wednesday evening against Hope College. Tech overcame a large Flying Dutch run to defeat the home team 10-9.

How it Happened

  • Tech started things off with an Isabel Fitzpatrick-Meyers goal less than three minutes into the match. 
  • After Hope answered three minutes later, the Scarlet Hawks went on a 4-0 run to take a 5-1 advantage with 9:46 left in the half. Three of the four tallies came courtsey of Isabella Rubin.
  • Hope, however, answered with a fierce run. The Flying Dutch scored the half's last five goals to take a 6-5 lead at halftime. The hosts also scored eight minutes into the second half to take a 7-5 lead.
  • After being held scoreless for over 20 minutes, the Scarlet Hawks offense came to life. Rubin scored at the 14:17 mark before scoring twice more at the 7:34 and 6:11 marks, taking the lead back for Tech at 8-7.
  • Hope would respond, scoring two goals over the next minute of action to take the lead back.
  • With 4:26 to play, Alyssa DeLuca netted her first goal of the game to tie things back up at 9-9.
  • Less than a minute later, Rubin scored her seventh goal of the match on a free position shot to take a 10-9 lead with 3:44 to play. Hope was held without a shot the rest of the way as Tech held on for the victory.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Rubin had one of her best games as a Scarlet Hawk. The sophomore scored a career-high seven goals while also adding a team-high six caused turnovers, four ground balls, and three draw controls.
  • DeLuca (five ground balls, three caused turnovers), Madison Meredith (three ground balls, three draw controls), and Fitzpatrick-Meyers (two ground balls) all tallied one goal.
  • Abbie Reynolds moved to a perfect 4-0 in net.

Stats to Know

  • Tech continues to clear at a highly successful rate. The Scarlet Hawks were an astounding 15-of-18 in clearing attemps compared of 14-of-22 for Hope.
  • Fouls (Hope 29, Tech 27), ground balls (Hope 28, Tech 26), and draw controls (Hope 11, Tech 10) were all nearly even.
  • The Scarlet Hawks outshot the Flying Dutch 35-21.
