Men's Volleyball Records Huge Victory at Aurora Wednesday

Box Score

AURORA, Ill. -- The Illinois Tech men's volleyball team recorded a big victory on the road against Aurora in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match after coming back from losing the first set.

The Scarlet Hawks (6-15, 3-10 NACC) defeated the Spartans (8-11, 7-6 NACC) in four sets (19-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-15) at Thornton Gymnasium in Aurora, Illinois Wednesday.

How It Happened

  • After both teams went back-and-forth to start the first set and the score 9-9, Aurora looked to pull away but Illinois Tech cut it to 16-14 but that was the closest the set got as the Spartans took the first set, 25-19.
  • Illinois Tech fought back after losing the opening set and came back after trailing 11-8 almost midway through the set to take the second one to tie the match at 1.
  • Looking to take control of the match going into the fourth set with a one set advantage, Aurora had the 9-6 lead before Illinois Tech rallied for seven straight points to go ahead 13-9, which helped them have control the rest of the set.
  • In a set Aurora needed to win to stay alive, Illinois Tech made sure that was not happening early as the Scarlet Hawks went ahead 9-3 which helped them secure the victory in the set and the match.
