Scarlet Hawks Extend Win Streak to Three With 3-0 Decision Over Edgewood

Box Score

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's volleyball team returned to the Keating Sports Center for the first time in two weeks on Tuesday, when they hosted first-year program Edgewood College. The Scarlet Hawks stretched their win streak to three games with a 3-0 sweep over the Eagles.

"It was nice to get the win tonight, and we have a lot to look forward to for the remainder of the season," said Scarlet Hawks head volleyball coach Mark Johnston. "We get to play some very good Wisconsin schools coming up. We need some big wins if we want to get into the conference tournament this year. We're going to see a really good team with Concordia (Wis.) on Friday, they've beaten us the last couple times we've played them. We follow that up with Marian (Wis.), who's been hot lately. We've got tough conference matches coming up, so we're going to turn the intensity level up a notch at practice."

The Scarlet Hawks improve to 3-4, 3-4 NACC while Edgewood falls to 1-8, 1-5 NACC.

Scarlet Hawks 3, Edgewood 0

Illinois Tech hasn't seen a three-game win streak since the 2019 season, when they rattled off victories over Maranatha Baptist, North Park and Concordia Chicago. Andriy Bench played a big role in his team accomplishing this feat as he registered a team-leading 11 kills and a .391 hitting mark.

Grant Couper and Jackson Van Engen each tallied eight kills, while Jack Bovone and Patrick Dunne each registered a team-leading eight digs.

Lucas Guanes notched 32 assists for the Scarlet Hawks.

Edgewood's Ethan Moll Hind tallied a game-high 13 kills, while Keegan Talbott fed him with 27 assists. Dylan Griffith paced the Eagles defense with a game-high 11 digs.

The Scarlet Hawks will travel to Concordia (Wis.) on Friday, March 19 for a 7:00 p.m. match.
