Chicago, Ill. - Sasami Cavan set a career-high with nine aces,
Briar Moore had nine kills, and the Illinois Tech women's volleyball team swept Rockford 3-0 Tuesday night at the Keating Center. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 4-7 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play (5-18 overall), keeping their post-season hopes alive for another day. The Regents fell to 2-9 in the NACC and 7-14 overall.
Illinois Tech 3 - Rockford 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-15)
In the opening set, Illinois Tech jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but a 9-3 run by Rockford had the Scarlet Hawks trailing 11-8. The Hawks responded with a 10-3 run to move out in front 18-14. The teams traded points down the stretch but Illinois Tech secured set point at 25-20.
London Francis paced the Hawks with 4 kills in set one.Â
In set two, Illinois Tech raced out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed. The Hawks held a 21-12 advantage late in the set, but Rockford used a 5-1 run to cut their deficit to five points, trailing 22-17. The teams went back and forth in the final points of the set before the Hawks closed out the set at 25-19. Moore led the set with 3 kills, while Cavan had 3 service aces.
The Scarlet Hawks trailed early in set three 4-2, jumped ahead 9-7, and then tied up at 10-10. After moving ahead 14-13, the Scarlet Hawks put distance between themselves and the Regents, using an 8-0 run to go up 22-13, and closed out Rockford 25-15. Moore and
Karla Trautmann Mendez each had 3 kills in the final set, while Cavan added 5 more service aces.
