Women’s Soccer is Headed to the NACC Championship - Defeats SNC 5-0 in NACC Semifinals

Chicago, Ill. - Hosting the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Semifinal match-up, the No. 1 ranked Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team welcomed the No. 5 ranked St. Norbert College Green Knights to Stuart Field for the November 1st contest. It took the Hawks just six minutes before scoring the first goal of the contest. After 90 minutes of action, the Hawks (19-2-1, 13-0) secured their spot in the NACC Championship match as they defeated the Green Knights (10-9-3, 7-4-2) by a final score of 5-0.

Wednesday night's match marked the Hawks 8th straight victory.

How it Happened

  • Six minutes was all it took for the Hawks to score their first goal of the contest. After earning a corner kick. Lucy Jorjorian played a short ball out to a wide open Carolyn Beltran. Beltran took a settling touch before sending a lofted ball into the box towards the top of the 6–yard box where a wide open Caitie Chismarich was awaiting. Chismarich was able to volley the ball down before blasting a shot over the coming out Green Knights goalkeeper and into the upper netting, giving the Hawks the early 1-0 lead in the semifinal match.

  • Wasting no time, the Hawks doubled their lead two minutes later. In the 8th minute of action Kelly Hitchcock stole a Green Knights clearance, winning the ball about 25 yards out from goal. With the Green Knights goalkeeper out of the net, Hitchcock fired off a shot towards the net. As it seemed like the ball was going to sail over the goal, it dipped just in time. Unfortunately for the Green Knight goalkeeper, the ball would bounce off the crossbar, hitting her in the back, and crossing the goal-line, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

  • Chismarich would go on to record a brace in the 24th minute off a Jayla Anaya assist. Counter attacking off a Green Knights corner kick, Chismarich slotted a ball past a Green Knight defender into the Hawks offensive half to where Anaya was running. With only one defender in her way, Anaya went 1v1 with her Green Knight defender as she dribbled the ball towards the goal. Running full speed, Chismarich ran into open space where she received a perfectly paced pass from Anaya just at the top of the 18-yard box. With the Green Knight goalkeeper coming out, Chismarich took a touch to her inside to avoid the goalkeeper, leaving a wide open net in front of her. Chismarich was able to send the ball across the goal-line, putting the Hawks ahead 3-0.

  • With just two minutes remaining in the first half, the Hawks Kaitlyn Walsh would score off a Avery Sealey assist. In the 43 minute, Sealy received a pass from the Hawks defensive half on the offensive side of the field, about 20 yards out from goal. Sealy would go on to dribble into the 18-yard box before crossing a ground ball towards the center of the box to Walsh. Walsh, who was wide open, one-touched her shot just inside the Green Knights goalkeeper, building the Hawks lead to 4-0.

  • During the second half, the Hawks would find the back of the net just one time to seal the victory. Allison Murray scored off a Chismarich assist in the 54th minute. Receiving the ball from Chismarich about 20 yards out from goal, Murray would take one touch before firing off a right-footed shot. Murray's powerful shot would perfectly sail into the back of the net, above the Green Knights goalkeeper and just below the cross bar. Murray's goal secured the Hawks 5-0 victory to send them to the Championship match.
