Fond du Lac, Wis. - Garrison Carter scored 19 points and pulled down 6 rebounds,
Andrew Veon finished with a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds, and the Illinois Tech men's basketball team completed their two-game Wisconsin swing 2-0 after a 74-65 victory at Marian Saturday afternoon. The Scarlet Hawks improve to 2-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play and 3-4 overall. The Sabres fall to 0-3 in NACC play, and 0-6 overall.
After the Hawks held a one-point lead at halftime, they used a 13-0 run to start the second half with a 14 point lead at 43-29, and fended off a couple rallies by the home team in the final frame to secure the victory.
First Half (Illinois Tech 30 - Marian 29)
A 9-3 lead by Marian at the 13:19 mark of the first half was quickly erased when the Scarlet Hawks followed by scoring the next seven points for a 10-9 lead just under 2 minutes later. The Sabres would counter, however, using another 9-3 run to move in front 18-13 at the 9:26 mark. But Illinois Tech would close out the opening half with a 17-11 advantage for a one-point lead heading into halftime. Carter led the Hawks with 10 points in the opening frame, with Caden Gigstad adding 5 points.
Second Half (Illinois Tech 44 - Marian 36)
The Scarlet Hawks picked up where they left off at the end of the first half, continuing to outscore the Sabres while building a 14 point lead just under five minutes into the second half. But a fast break layup and the "and one" conversion by Marian's Tavaris McCullough at the 13:30 mark cut the Sabres deficit to just 5 points. Although the Sabres would keep the deficit to single digits for a majority of the second half, they were never able to get closer than that five-point deficit, as the Scarlet Hawks kept the Sabres at bay to close out the half and the game. Carter and Desmond Price each had 9 points in the second half, with Veon and Gigstad both adding 8 points.
