Lisle, Ill. - For a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) contest, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's basketball team traveled to take on the Benedictine University Eagles. Entering the contest, the Hawks looked to stay in the winning category while the Eagles searched for their first win of the season. After a second half comeback to put the game into overtime, the Hawks (2-6, 1-1) were defeated by the Eagles (1-7, 1-1) by a final score of 79-65.
First Half (Benedictine 34 - Illinois Tech 21)

At the 8 minute, 8 second mark, Julia Bucci opened the contest with a 3-pointer off a Camden Joko assist. One minute later, Abigail Marino put the Hawks up 5-0 with a driving layup. The Eagles got their first basket of the contest at 6:41 with a layup. After four free throws between 5:52 and 5:30, the Eagles went ahead of the Hawks 6-5. With 3:43 remaining in the quarter, the Hawks and Eagles once again sat tied, this time after a Grace Goodnough layup tied the game at 9-9. The home team toko back the lead before two free throws by Joko tied everything back up at 11-11 with 1:37 on the clock. A Goodnough layup put the Hawks on top before an Eagle floating jump shot tied the game once again, this time at 13-13 with 49 seconds remaining. Chloe Churilla put up a jumper with 34 seconds remaining to give the Hawks a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

During the second quarter, the game would turn in favor of the Eagles. At the 9:20 mark, the Eagles began the quarter with a 3-pointer to take a one-point, 16-15 lead over the Hawks. A Bucci free throw tied the game at 16-16, the game's fifth tie. Then, at 6:21 remaining, the Eagles would make a jumper to take a 18-16 lead. From this point on for the remainder of the quarter, The Eagles led the Hawks. At halftime, the Eagles held a 34-21 lead over the Hawks.
Second Half (Benedictine 23 - Illinois Tech 36)

Just like the beginning of the game, Bucci opened up the third quarter with three points, this time off a Kaya Jones assist. After the Eagles put up 5 straight points to hold a 39-24 lead, neither team would record a basket between 8:29 and 5:41. Goodnough broke the scoreless streak with a jumper at 5:40. The Eagles kept control of the game while the Hawks looked to chip away at their lead. Joko recorded back-to-back three pointers at 3:29 and 2:49 before Bucci recorded one of her own at the 1:28 mark to come with five. At the end of the third quarter, the Hawks trailed the Eagles 42-37.

To begin the fourth quarter, the Eagles went on a 7-0 run between 9:31 and 8:12. Joko broke the Eagles run with a three pointer off a Jones assist at 7:26. Joko's 3-pointer began a 15-3 run for the Hawks to tie the game at 52-52 between 7:26 and 2:24. The Hawks then went on to take the lead over the Eagles before the two sides were once again tied. With just 33 seconds remaining, the Eagles made a 3-pointer to tie the game at 57-57. Neither side was able to record another basket with time ticking down, sending the game into overtime.
Overtime (Benedictine 22 - Illinois Tech 8)

With five minutes of extra basketball, the Eagles picked up the first basket with a three pointer at 4:38. Bucci quickly answered for the Hawks with a jumper to make it a one-point game. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Eagles controlled the overtime period. The Eagles would go on to outscore the Hawks 22-8 to secure a 79-65 overtime victory.
