Wheaton, Ill. - Topping off her first week of collegiate action after being sidelined by injury to start the season, Illinois Tech women's volleyball player
Karla Trautmann Mendez was named to the all-tournament team at the Marilyn Scribner Invitational this past weekend at Wheaton College.
Trautmann Mendez finished the three weekend matches with 22 kills, just one off the team lead by
Briar Moore, and averaged 2.00 kills per set. Trautmann Mendez also had a .340 attack percentage, which led the team. On the defensive side, she finished with 9 total blocks. She was among 10 players chosen among the eight participating schools for all-tournament recognition.
Although the Scarlet Hawks didn't fair as well as hoped during the invitational (0-3), they were in some hard-fought matches, and did have several players with strong performances:
- Briar Moore: led the team with 23 kills, for a 2.09 kills per set average. Moore also had 5 service aces, 65 receptions with a .908 receiving rate, and led with 35 digs
- Karla Trautmann Mendez with 22 kills, 2.00 kills per set, a team-leading .340 attack rate, and a team-leading 9 total blocks
- Emily Graham with 16 kills, and a 1.45 kills per set average
- Sasami Cavan with 69 assists, averaging 6.27 assists per set, while adding 5 service aces
- Kelsey Starnes with 34 digs, 3.09 digs per set, 61 receptions for a .918 receiving percentage, and 7 service aces
- Anna Elena Sofia Sebastio tallied 6 service aces, with only 1 service error
