Women's Volleyball Falls 3-1 to Edgewood

Chicago, Ill. - In a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) match-up inside the Keating Sports Center, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's volleyball team took on the Edgewood College Eagles. The contest saw the Hawks (3-12, 2-2) fight back offensively to push for four sets, but ultimately dropped the NACC contest to the Eagles (9-4, 3-0) 3-1. 

How It Happened

Set One - Eagles 25, Hawks 18

  • The Hawks came out with energy, keeping set one even through 6-6 with the Eagles. Although the Eagles pulled out ahead, the Hawks fought to stay even, creating multiple key plays to stay within reach. Towards the end of the set, the Eagles were able to go on a 6-2 run to claim the set one victory at 25-18. 

Set Two - Eagles 25, Hawks 13

  • Set two started off strong in favor of the Hawks. A 4-1 run began the set, including a kill from Maria Alcantara and a service ace from Briar Moore. The Hawks would hold the lead until the Eagles tied the set at 6-6 with a kill. After the tie, the Eagles went on a 9-0 run to take the lead. They would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the set over the Hawks, eventually taking set two 25-13. 

Set Three - Hawks 25, Eagles 22

  • From the get go, the Hawks and Eagles would battle through the entirety of the third set. Throughout set three, there would be a total of nine ties. After being tied at 16-16, the Hawks would go on to lead the set the rest of the way. The Hawks secured the set three victory at 25-22 after a Briar Moore kill, pushing the match to four sets. 

Set Four - Eagles 25, Hawks 22

  • The Hawks would keep up the intensity throughout set four against the Eagles. After being tied at 6-6, the Eagles would jump ahead of the Hawks, going on a 7-2 run. Over time, the Hawks fought their way back to tie the match at 22-22 with huge kills from Briar Moore, Maria Fernanda Alcantara, and Karla Trautmann Mendez. Unfortunately, the Hawks could not keep their momentum going as the Eagles secured the final three points to secure set four 25-22 and win the match.

The Hawks will take the court again on Saturday, September 30, when they welcome the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons (7-7, 2-0) to the Keating Sports Center for a 12:00 PM NACC match-up.
