Waukesha, Wis. - The Illinois Tech men's soccer team traveled north to Wisconsin in search of their first victory of the season, after playing to back-to-back draws in their first two matches. Unfortunately the Pioneers were not accommodating hosts, as they outshot the Scarlet Hawks 22-1 en route to a 2-0 non-conference victory. The Scarlet Hawks dropped to 0-1-2 in overall, while the Pioneers improved to 2-1-0.
How It Happened
- Carroll opened the scoring at the 25:30 mark. Marti Solanellas cut inside parallel to the 15-yard line of the football field, and fed inside to a streaking Marc Gollner, who slipped it past Scarlet Hawks' goalkeeper Adam Falcigno inside the right post for a 1-0 Pioneers lead.
- Carroll extended their lead just over seven minutes later. On a Carroll offensive rush, a contested ball just inside the penalty area near the left hash marks ricochet out to Josh Gonzaga of Carroll, who carried to the top line of the penalty area and fired a shot that deflected off a Scarlet Hawks defender and inside the left post past Falcigno, who was diving in the other direction based on the initial shot's trajectory. The goal at 32:45 gave Carroll a 2-0, the final margin of victory.
