Madison, Wis. - A strong first quarter behind the arc for the Illinois Tech women's basketball team at Edgewood could not be sustained, as the host Eagles used a dominating second quarter to expand their lead on the way to a 77-43 conference victory Wednesday night. The Scarlet Hawks fell to 1-2 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, and 2-9 overall. The Eagles improved to 3-0 in conference, and 4-8 overall.
Edgewood utilized a 42-12 advantage in points in the paint to take control of the game, while shooting 50% from the field.
First Half (Edgewood 42 - Illinois Tech 23)
The Scarlet Hawks fell behind 11-0 at the 6:10 mark in the first quarter, but they outscored the Eagles 14-6 the remainder of the quarter to cut their deficit to 17-14 heading into the second quarter. The Eagles would respond with a powerful second quarter, outscoring the Hawks 25-9 to take a 19-point lead into halftime. Kaya Jones led the Scarlet Hawks with 7 points in the opening half.
Second Half (Edgewood 35 - Illinois Tech 20)
The teams were trading baskets midway through the third quarter before a 5-2 run by the Eagles closed out the quarter, holding a 57-33 lead. The final quarter saw the Eagles double up the Scarlet Hawks 20-10 in points for the final margin of victory. Chloe Churilla led the Hawks with 8 points in the second half.
