Women's Tennis Edged By Wisconsin Lutheran

Wauwatosa, Wis. - With a chance to move up in the conference standings and move a conference foe down, the Illinois Tech women's tennis team traveled north for a late-morning battle with Wisconsin Lutherarn on Saturday. Despite starting off the match winning the doubles point, the Scarlet Hawks were unable to secure the three singles-match victories needed to win the day, as the Warrior won four of six in singles play to earn the 4-3 match victory. With the loss, the Scarlet Hawks fell to 3-3 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, and to 3-5 overall. The Warriors evened their conference record to 4-4 and improved to 5-5 overall.

With only three conference matches remaining, the Scarlet Hawks currently sit in sixth place and the final seed spot for the NACC post-season tournament, played in the spring 2025. The Hawks would need to win at least two of their final three remaining conference matches and have Wisconsin Lutheran and Concordia Wisconsin lose their remaining matches for a chance to move up in the standings and improve their seed position.

Doubles Play - Illinois Tech 2 - Wisconsin Lutheran 1 (Illinois Tech earns 1 doubles point)
Hannah Markiewicz and Martyna Kalinowska swept their number one doubles match 6-0 to give the Scarlet Hawks the early 1-0 advantage in double play. It was the third consecutive conference doubles victory for the Hawks' number one team. The Hawks' number three doubles team of Ashley Dame and Rhea Karumuru fell short in their match, falling 3-6. That left the number two doubles match to decide the doubles point. The Scarlet Hawks were able to come out on top, as the number two team of Paige Geiger and Angelica Conwell outlasted Wisconsin Lutheran's Joelle Smith and Amelia Kelley 7-5, giving the Hawks the double point.

Singles Play - Wisconsin Lutheran 4 - Illinois Tech 2 (Wisconsin Lutheran earns 4 singles points to secure the match victory)
Kalinowska won her number one singles match 6-4, 6-1 against Wisconsin Lutheran's Ali Schmidt. Kalinowska improved to 6-0 in conference singles play, and 7-1 overall. The Warriors Maddy Olson edged out Markiewicz 6-3, 6-4 to claim the number two singles match victory. For Markiewicz, it was only her second singles loss in conference play, now sporting a 4-2 record. Smith and the Warriors earned the number three singles victory in her 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Geiger. The Scarlet Hawks were able to draw even in the singles battle at 2-2 when Dame won her number four singles match against the Warriors' Kelley 6-2, 6-2. Dame continues to remain undefeated in conference singles play at 6-0. In the number fives singles match, it was the Warriors' Tai Mitchell besting the Hawks' Conwell 6-4, 6-2. That left the number six singles match as the decider for the overall match victory. The Scarlet Hawks' Karumuru battled to send the match to three sets, but ultimately fell 1-6, 6-2, 1-6 to the Warriors' Desirae Pugh, giving Wisconsin Lutheran the 4-3 match victory.
