Women’s Soccer Advance to NACC Championship Match - Defeats St. Norbert 8-0 in Semifinal Match

Chicago, Ill. – In a semifinal rematch of the 2023 season, the No. 1 seeded Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team welcomed the No. 5 seeded St. Norbert College Green Knights to Stuart Field on the night of Tuesday, September 5th for the 2024 semifinal match of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Women's Soccer Tournament. Dominating the match offensively, the Hawks went on to defeat the Green Knights 8-0 to move on to the NACC Women's Soccer Tournament Championship match for the fourth year in a row. The win moves the Hawks to a 17-2-2 overall record while the Green Knights finish their season with a 6-10-4 overall record. 

Five different Hawks found the back of the net. Freshman Hannah Ramos recorded her first career hat trick as a Scarlet Hawk. Freshman Eva Narvarte recorded her first career brace as a Scarlet Hawk 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

2nd minute – Goal Eva Narvarte, assisted by Caitie Chismarich – With the Hawks earning a throw in in their defensive half, Liliana Schuth threw the ball up field in the direction of Chismarich. Chismarich received the ball and turned forward, racing towards the goal. Chismarich then played a curing cross into the direction of Narvarte. Narvarte took one touch inside the 18-yard box before placing a right footed shot into the lower left corner of the net.  

7th minute – Goal Hannah Ramos, assisted by Caitie Chismarich – After gaining possession of a Green Knight clearance attempt, the Hawks passed the ball back to the defense and took their time looking for an outlet. Gabriella Baltes eventually found Chismarich open in the center circle on the Hawks offensive side. As Chismarich received the ball, the Green Knight defenders began to crash in on her. Chismarich took one touch allowing her to turn her body before slotting a ball forward through the Green Knights defense. Ramos was the first to react, taking off sprinting towards the ball. Gaining control, Ramos dribbled into the 18-yard box before placing a right footed shot into the lower, right near post corner.  

35th minute – Goal Hannah Ramos, assisted by Eva Narvarte – With the Green Knights looking to clear the ball, the Hawks gained possession in their offensive half. Along the sideline, Narvarte beat her defender 1v1 and took of dribbling towards goal while cutting inside. Looking for an outlet, Narvarte laid the ball off to Ramos at the top of the 18-yard box. Ramos took one touch, shifting the ball to her right foot before placing a shot into the left upper 90.  

41st minute – Goal Kayla Thomas – Putting immediate pressure on a Green Knights free kick, the Hawks were able to gain control of the ball in their offensive half. As Thomas was making a run towards goal, Joanne Porter played a. Splitting ball between two Green Knight defenders. Thomas took a right-footed shot that would initially be saved, but the rebound would come right back to her, allowing her to score with a left-footed volley.  

47th minute – Goal Caitie Chismarich – Receiving the ball with her back towards goal, Chismarich was able to throw off her defender, turn and dribbled towards goal. Once inside the 18-yard box, Chismarich sent a right-footed shot into the opposite side netting.  

47th minute – Goal Hannah Ramos, assisted by Kayla Smith – From a Hawk throw in, Chismarich received the ball, turned, and played a through ball to Ramos. Meeting the ball at the top of the 18-yard box, Ramos took one touch in before placing a shot into the lower left corner of the net. This marked Ramos' third goal of the game, earning her a hat-trick.   

59th minute – Goal Eva Narvarte, assisted by Amelia Moseman – Starting with Katia Blatnik, the Hawks built the ball up the field. From just inside the Hawks offensive half, Moseman sent the ball into the space in front of a running Narvarte. Beating all the defenders, Narvarte gained possession and dribbled into the box. Once inside and with the goalkeeper coming out at her, Narvarte was able to slide a shot underneath the Green Knights goalkeeper into the lower right corner on the net. This marked Narvarte's second goal of the game, earning her a brace. 

67th minute – Goal Kaitlyn Walsh – Receiving a pass from Allison Murray, Walsh was able to use her first touch to push the ball behind the Green Knights defense. Beating all the defenders, Walsh took a touch into the box before sliding a shot underneath the diving Green Knights goalkeeper into the center of the net, recording the final goal of the game.

  • Illinois Tech out shot St. Norbert 18-4 with 10 shots on goal versus two 

  • 7-of-11 corner kicks went in favor of the Hawks 

  • Both teams recorded two saves 

  • Seven of the Hawks goals came inside the 18-yard box  

UP NEXT 

Heading to the NACC Women's Soccer Tournament Championship, the No. 1 Hawks will host the No. 2 Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Raiders on Saturday, November 9th at 3:00 PM on Stuart Field.  

On Tuesday, the Raiders defeated the Dominican University Stars 1-0 with a 73rd minute goal from Grace Quinn. 

The Hawks and Raiders met earlier this season on September 28th on Stuart Field. An 83rd minute goal by Kayla Smith gave the Hawks the 1-0 victory over the Raiders. During the match, the Hawks outshot the Raiders 21-4 with seven shots on goal versus three.  

Saturday's 2024 Championship match will be a rematch of the 2023 Championship match between the Hawks and Raiders. Last year, the Raiders defeated the Hawks with an overtime goal in the 104th minute from Maggie Thillman.  

This will mark the Hawks 4th straight NACC Championship appearance and 5th total Championship appearance since joining the NACC in 2018.
