Kansas City, Mo. - The Illinois Tech women's soccer team, coming off their very first NCAA tournament appearance and making it to the round of 16, received some more national recognition when the United Soccer Coaches Association released their
final rankings for the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer season, with the Scarlet Hawks achieving their first national ranking in program history at number 22.
"We are proud of what our team achieved this fall and the national recognition is fulfilling," said Head Coach
Roshane Ellison. "With our goal to be one of the premier NCAA programs in the country, securing a top 25 spot in the final poll is a step in the right direction and symbolic of the progress we have made as a program."
Added Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Usha Gilmore: "This was an unbelievable ride. We are all extremely proud of Coach Ellison and our women's soccer team. We are one of the best Division 3 women's soccer teams in the country that's pretty amazing" said Gilmore.
The Scarlet Hawks finished the season 19-3-3, and went undefeated in conference, sporting an 11-0-1 record in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play. The Scarlet Hawks won their first NACC conference tournament in the fall, after making the conference finals the previous three seasons. With the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament achieved by virtue of winning the NACC tournament, the Scarlet Hawks followed that up by defeating North Central College 3-1 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, and then defeating host Carnegie Mellon on penalty kicks to advance to the Sweet 16.
For the season, the Scarlet Hawks outscored their opponents 103-18, ranking third in the country in Division III Women's Soccer at 4.12 goals per game. They outshot their opponents 582-12, and ranked third in the country in shots on goal per game at 12.08.
