Men's Tennis Drops A Pair Of Road Matches In Ohio

Oberlin, Ohio. - Illinois Tech men's tennis made a stop in Ohio Saturday for a pair of non-conference matches. The Scarlet Hawks opened the day with a 9-0 loss to the defending Division III champions Case Western Reserve. They finished out the day with a closer battle against host Oberlin College before eventually falling 6-3. The Scarlet Hawks fell to 2-4 overall. Case Western improved to 4-0, while Oberlin improved to 2-3.

Doubles Play (Case Western 3 - Illinois Tech 0)
Illinois Tech's number two doubles team of Jordan Lauer and Davis Housman gave the Spartans all they could handle before eventually falling 8-7 on a 7-3 tie-breaker win for Case Western. The Scarlet Hawks dropped the number one and three doubles matches, 8-2 and 8-0 respectively. 

Singles Play (Case Western 6 - Illinois Tech 0)
The Spartans won in straight sets in all six singles matches. First-year Pol Dueso Guell did earn wins in five games in the number four singles match, while fellow first-year Eduardo Lopez earned victories in six games in his number five singles match. Nabil Fawaz followed with four games won in his number three singles match, while Alann Torres earned victories in three games in his number two singles match.

Doubles Play (Illinois Tech 2 - Oberlin 1)
The Scarlet Hawks won the doubles battle 2-1, with the number one doubles team of Torres and Avneet Singh taking an 8-7 win on a 7-3 tie-breaker. The number three doubles team of Dueso Guell and Fawaz followed with another 8-7 win on a 7-4 tie-breaker. The Hawks number two doubles team of Lauer and Housman lost a heart-breaker 8-7, with Oberlin taking the tie-breaker 7-4. 

Singles Play (Oberlin 5 - Illinois Tech 1)
Oberlin flipped the script on the Scarlet Hawks in singles play, as they Yeomen took five of the six matches to earn the overall match victory. Lauer took the lone singles victory, winning his number six singles match 7-5, 4-6, 10-6. Torres had a close battle in the number two singles match, eventually falling 6-7(5-7), 4-6. Housman took six games in his number one singles match, followed by Fawaz with five game victories in the number three singles match, Dueso Guell with four games won in the number four singles match, and Lopez with three games won in his number five singles match.
