Chicago, Ill. - Aaron Hanny had a career-high 10 kills and 3 service aces,
Eli Sherman had 21 assists and 8 digs, and the Illinois Tech men's volleyball team swept Rockford 3-0 Saturday afternoon in a conference match at the Keating Center. The Scarlet Hawks evened up their conference record at 3-3, and improved to 7-12 overall. Rockford dropped to 1-6 in NACC play, and 1-15 overall.
Although the Scarlet Hawks recorded the sweep, they did have a close call in the second set, with Rockford owning a late 19-17 lead before the Hawks righted the ship and eventually won the set.
Illinois Tech 3 - Rockford 0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-14)
- Set 1: The Scarlet Hawks never trailed and were never tied in the opening set, winning the set post to post. A 10-0 run by the Hawks midway through the set put them in front 21-10 en route to the nine-point set victory. Hanny paced the Hawks with 4 kills in the set.
- Set 2: The Scarlet Hawks found themselves trailing throughout much of the middle set. Rockford held a 10-6 lead midway through the set. The Scarlet Hawks battled back to take a 16-14 lead. But a 5-1 run by the Regents put them in front 19-17. The Hawks countered with an 8-2 run to close out set two. Hanny with 3 more kills.
- Set 3: After the close scare in the middle set, the Scarlet Hawks took no chances in the third. The Hawks ran out to a 6-0 lead before the Regents recorded their first point. The Hawks held a 16-5 lead midway through the set. The Regents would pull no closer than eight points the rest of the way, with the Hawks eventually closing out with an 11-point set win for the match victory. Grant Couper led with 4 kills.
