Baseball Falls To NYU In Finale Of Spring Break Trip

Bradenton, Fla. - It wasn't the results the Illinois Tech baseball team was hoping for on their annual spring break trip to Florida, but when the final pitch was thrown in the Scarlet Hawks 20-6 seven-inning loss to New York University Sunday afternoon at the IMG Academy baseball complex, the team concluded their eight-game trip with a 2-6 record. The Scarlet Hawks dropped to 3-9 on the season. The Violets improved to 11-2 overall.

Thankfully for the Scarlet Hawks, the games on this trip don't count against them in the conference standings, with Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play set to begin next weekend.

The Hawks will look to shore up their pitching performance heading into next week, as they look to cut down on the 10.5 runs per game they allowed over the eight-game trip.

Conversely, the Scarlet Hawks offense had a trip to build from. They averaged nearly 7 runs per game, with the team batting .307, with an on-base percentage of .419 and a slugging percentage of .466.

NYU 20 - Illinois Tech 6
Despite Illinois Tech scoring five runs over the first four innings of the contest, and collecting 13 hits overall, the game was over early for all intents and purposes. NYU put up six runs in the bottom of the first, and then added ten runs in the bottom of the second, to put the game out of reach. Four different players homered for the Violets.
