De Pere, Wis. - Riley Laite racked up 17 kills and 14 digs,
Elijah Johnson had 45 assists, and the Illinois Tech men's volleyball team won their second consecutive conference match, downing St. Norbert 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Wisconsin. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 2-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play, and 6-10 overall. The Green Knights fell to 1-4 in the NACC, and 8-9 overall.
Illinois Tech 3 - St. Norbert 1 (25-21, 25-15, 25-27, 25-18)
- Set 1: The opening set remained a tightly-played contest with the score tied at 12-12. An 8-4 run by the Scarlet Hawks put them out front 20-16. The teams traded points over the next 10 points, with the Hawks closing out the match 25-21. Laite paced the Hawks with 8 kills in the opening set.
- Set 2:Â Illinois Tech never trailed in set two, jumping out to a 12-6 lead. The Green Knights would cut their deficit to three points at 16-13, but the Scarlet Hawks closed out the set with a 9-2 run for the set two victory. 6 kills for David Singer.
- Set 3: Set three developed into the most competitive of the match, with nine tie scores and four lead changes. The Scarlet Hawks held three-point leads on six occasions in the first half of the set, capped off by a 10-7 lead. A 4-0 run by the Green Knights moved them into a short-lived 11-10 lead. The Hawks would eventually re-establish the lead, and held a 19-13 advantage heading down the stretch. St. Norbert would come roaring back, evening the match at 24-24. A service error by the Green Knights gave the Scarlet Hawks set and match point at 25-24. But the Green Knights won the next three points to take the set and stave off a match loss. Laite added 3 more kills for the Hawks.
- Set 4: The fourth set stayed close early, with the teams tied 4-4. A 16-9 run by Illinois Tech put them in the driver's seat at 20-13. St. Norbert would get as close as five points at 23-18 before the Hawks closed out the set and match by scoring the final two points. 4 kills a piece for Jackson Van Engen and Jelani Kimoto.
