Holland, Mich. - In their final non-conference match of the 2024 season, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks traveled to Michigan to take on the Hope College Flying Dutch. Unfortunately for the Hawks (2-5), the Flying Dutch (6-3) dominated the goal-scoring, going on to hand the Hawks a 20-7 loss.
First Quarter (Hope 8 - Illinois Tech 2)

Back-to-back goals for the Flying Dutch began the contest as Sean Cunngham scored at 14:20 and Gibson Heethuis scored at 13:28.

Diego Sosa put the Hawks on the board with his first goal of the game at 11:57 in a man-up situation. Alexander Stokrp assisted the play when he found a wide open Sosa. Sosa, who was far out from the goal, received the pass and immediately fired off a shot into the goal.

After the Hawks goal, the Flying Dutch went on a 6-goal goal scoring streak. Goals were scored at 8:26 by Heethuis, 6:25 by Freddy Kopplow, 4:50 by Heethuis, 2:11 by Mann, 2:07 by Heethuis, and 1:30 by Mann.

With 14 seconds remaining, Sosa once again scored in a man-up situation. With a defender stepping towards him, Sosa sent a shot flying past the defender and Flying Dutch goalkeeper.

At the end of the first quarter, the Flying Dutch led 8-2.
Second Quarter (Hope 4 - Illinois Tech 2)

49 seconds was all it took into the second quarter for the Flying Dutch to score. Heethuis once again found the back of the net.

After a scoreless streak followed, the Flying Dutch scored back-to-back goal. Andon Rieger scored at 8:12 and Erich Klopfenstein followed with a goal 10 seconds later. Here the Flying Dutch led the Hawks 11-2.

Reed Tangeman scored for the Hawks at 3:58. With the ball deep behind the goal and a defender on him, Tangeman took off running towards the goal. Once he got right in front of goal, Tangeman swung a shot over the Flying Dutch goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net.

Both teams picked up one more goal before halftime. Marco Mularoni scored for the Flying Dutch at 1:46. Jackson Brass scored for the Hawks with 44 seconds remaining off an Owen Huard assist. Juking his defender, Brass was in space running when he received a pass from Huard. Brass continued his run towards goal and placed a shot into the upper right corner.

At halftime, the Flying Dutch led the Hawks 12-4.
Third Quarter (Hope 4 - Illinois Tech 2)

At 13:38 the Flying Dutch got the action going with a goal by Mann.

Sam Bowen later scored for the Flying Dutch at 10:29 in a man-up situation.

The Hawks Yano Porter found the back of the net at 8:38. Hitting the spin move on his defender, Porter faced up towards goal and sent a shot flying past the Flying Dutch goalkeeper.

Tangeman then scored his second of the game at 6:53 off a Porter assist. After receiving the ball, Tangeman sent a shot into the back of the net while being pushed backwards by his defender.

The Flying Dutch closed out the quarter with two more goals. Brainard scored at 6:44 and Early scored at 1:27.

At the end of the third quarter, the Flying Dutch led 16-6.
Fourth Quarter (Hope 4 - Illinois Tech 1)

With a slow start to the fourth quarter, the Flying Dutch scored the first goal of the quarter at 7:40 when Rieger found the back of the net.

Sosa scored the Hawks final goal of the game at the 5:45 mark in yet another man-up situation. Standing right in front of the goal, Sosa picked up an initially saved shot and placed the ball into the back of the net, earning himself a hat-trick for the night.

The Flying Dutch closed out the game with three more goals. Hynde scored at 3:43 while Rieger scored at 3:20 and Beckett Monday scored at 46 seconds remaining.

At the final whistle, the Flying Dutch defeated the Hawks 20-7.
