Plymouth, Wis. - On the road in Wisconsin, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks baseball team took on the Lakeland University Muskies in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) double header action. After going down in the bottom of the first inning by one run, the Hawks (13-12, 9-3) turned the game around in their favor. During the seven inning game, the Hawks scored at least one run in four innings. With a big sixth inning that brought in six runs, the Hawks defeated the Muskies (6-20, 1-13) 12-3. In game two, the Hawks recorded the most runs scored by the program in the last 20 years with a 26-19 victory over the Muskies. After being tied 13-13 at the end of the sixth inning, the Hawks would go on to take the lead from the Muskies and hold on to it for the remainder of the game.
Between the two games, the Hawks had a total of 18 stolen bases and 6 doubles.
The Hawks sweep over the Muskies moves them to a 7-game winning streak.
Game One (Illinois Tech 12 - Lakeland 3 (7 innings))

In the bottom of the first inning, the Muskies took an early 1-0 lead with a run scored off a wild pitch.

In the top of the second, after being walked, Samuel Sproule made his way to third base on a throwing error. With one out, Sproule scored on Lucas Waunn's at bat during a throwing error. At the end of the inning, the Hawks and Muskies were tied at 1-1.

Tyler Gutsfeld, the Hawks lead off hitter, began the third inning with a solo home run to right center field to put the Hawks ahead 2-1.

With Mason Kim on second and two outs, Gutsfeld got the action going in the top of the fourth inning with a single up the middle to score Kim. Then, after Gutsfeld stole second and Michael Paxson made it to first after a hit by pitch, Connor Blake stepped up to bat. Blake singled through the left side, sending Gutsfeld home and advancing Paxson to second. For the next at-bat, Sproule doubled to left center, scoring both Paxson and Blake to give the Hawks a 6-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Muskies added two runs. Oaklee Spens scored off a Kellen Hodges single through the left side. Hodges later scored on a fielding error. After the fifth inning, the Hawks led the Muskies 6-3.

The rest of the game's runs came in the top of the sixth in favor of the Hawks. After reaching on a fielding error and stealing second, Gutsfeld made it home on a Paxson double to center field. Paxson then scored off a Blake single to left field. Blake would then advance to second on a balk before Sproule walked. A double steal situation would place Blake on third and Sproule on second during Michael Lindenmuth's at-bat. Blake then scored on a wild pitch while Sproule advanced to third. After Lindenmuth was walked, Waunn singled to the shortstop, scoring Sproule and advancing Lindenmuth to second. A Kim single up the middle brought in Lindenmuth and sent Waunn to second. Waunn scored the final run of the game when he reached home on a Matthew Bove ground out. The Hawks 6 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning secured them the 12-3 victory over the Muskies.

Following a scoreless inning and a half to begin game two, the Muskies got the action going with a four run inning in the bottom of the second. Tucker Gegenfurtner scored the first run on a throwing error. Dylan Costello then scored off a Landon Mani bunt. Then, off an Oaklee Spens double, the Muskies scored two runs to take a 4-0 lead at the end of the second inning.

In the top of the third, the Hawks found some offense. Timmy Old began the inning with a single up the middle before stealing second. Jack Friar followed with a single of his own to left field, advancing Old to third. Then, on a wild pitch, Old made it home while Friar advanced to second. After a Hawk fly-out, Gutsfeld doubled to center field, scoring Friar. Gutsfield then advanced to third off a Paxson single to the shortstop. On a throwing error by the Muskies, Gutsfeld scored and Paxson stole second. In the following at-bat, Blake reached on a throwing error while Paxson scored. After advancing to second, Blake scored off a Sproule single through the left side. During Lindenmuths at bat, Sproule stole second and third. After Lindenmuth was walked, he stole second to place two runners in scoring position. During a ground out, Sproule scored. After the top of the third inning, the Hawks led 6-4. In the bottom part of the inning, the Muskies took back their lead. With bases loaded, Keegan scored after Mani was walked. In the following at-bat, Gegenfurtner scored off an Aiden Swann single up the middle. The Muskies then brought in two runners on a Chris Day single to right field. The final runner of the inning came off a Spens sac-fly. At the end of the third inning, the Muskies led the Hawks 9-6.

During the bottom of the fourth, the Muskies added on four more runs to extend their lead. Keegan scored during a Hawk throwing error. Then, during a Swann single through the left side, three runners scored, increasing the Muskies lead to 13-6 over the Hawks.

The Hawks came within three runs during the top of the fifth inning. With runners on first and third, Sproule singled down the left field line, scoring both. Sproule later scored during a ground out. After reaching on a fielding error, Lindenmuth scored the final run of the inning on a ground out. After five innings, the Hawks trailed the Muskies 13-10.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Hawks would tie the contest. A Blake triple to right center brought in two runners to bring the Hawks within one. The tying run then came during a bases loaded situation on a passed ball.

It would be in the top of the seventh inning where the Hawks would jump ahead of the Muskies and lead for the remainder of the game. Gutsfeld scored during a Sproule bunt to put the Hawks ahead. On a Lindenmuth single up the middle, two runners scored to extend the Hawks lead. Lindenmuth then scored an unearned run after Old reached on a dropped fly. Then, with Waunn on third and Old on second, Friar brought in both runners with a single to center field. In the bottom half of the inning, the Muskies scored four runs. Spens scored during a single through the left side. During a fielder's choice situation, Hodges scored and Keegan scored on a throwing error. The Muskies final run of the inning came off a Jacob Wollschlager single to right field. At the end of the seventh inning, the Hawks led the Muskies 19-17.

Both teams scored two runs a piece during the eighth inning. The Hawks runs came on a Sproule double to left field which scored Paxson and Gutsfeld. The Muskies two runs came off a Costello single up the middle. The Hawks held a 21-19 lead at the end of the eighth inning.

Then, during the ninth and final inning, the Hawks extended their lead to help seal the victory. With one out and runners on second and third, Bove singled through the left side, bringing in both runners. Bove then stole second before Gutsfeld was walked, putting runners on first and second. A Paxson single up the middle scored Bove. During the following at-bat, both Gutsfeld and Paxson advanced on wild pitches. A Blake double to left field then brought in both runners, giving the Hawks their ultimate 26-19 victory.
