Chicago, Ill. - After their original game from April 2nd got rescheduled, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks baseball team finally welcomed the Wheaton College Thunder to Ed Glancy Field for a single non-conference game on Thursday, April 18th. In just the first inning, seven runs would be scored between the two teams, with the Thunder (7-20) taking an early 4-3 lead over the Hawks (15-13). The Hawks went ahead during the bottom of the second and led until the Thunder tied the game at 6-6 in the 6th inning. A Michael Paxson sac-fly in the seventh inning brought in Luke Yachnin to put the Hawks ahead by one-run, eventually leading to the Hawks 7-6 victory.
13 stolen bases were recorded during the game by the Hawks, with Tyler Gutsfeld, Connor Blake and Luke Yachnin all recording three a piece.

The Thunder opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning. With bases loaded and one out, Joe Klein singled through the left side to bring in Kyle Wu. A Noah Yi single down the right field line followed, bringing in Jacob Snyder and Mason Diel. Payton McClowry then brought in Klein with a sac-fly. After the top of the first, the Thunder led 4-0. The Hawks were able to come within one run in the bottom half of the inning. With bases loaded and one out, Tyler Gutsfeld scored the Hawks first run of the day off a wild pitch. Michael Paxson then reached home during a wild pitch to Michael Lindenmuth. Samuel Sproule scored the Hawks final run of the inning, making the score 4-3 in favor of the Thunder at the end of the first.

In the bottom of the second, the Hawks would take the lead from the Thunder. With one out, Luke Yachnin was walked before stealing both second and third base. A Gutsfeld single to right field brought in Yachnin to tie the game at 4-4. Gutsfeld then scored during a Connor Blake double to right field. At the end of the second inning, the Hawks held a 5-4 lead over the Thunder.

After a scoreless third inning, the Hawks extended their lead by one run in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs and runners on first and third, Blake stole home for the Hawks during Matthew Bove's at-bat. The fourth inning would end with the Hawks leading the Thunder 6-4.

The fifth inning would come and go before the Thunder tied the game during the 6th inning. Daniel Hillyer scored off a Harrison Stanton single up the middle. The Thunder then tied the game when Stanton reached home on a passed ball. The sixth inning ended with the score tied at 6-6.

The winning run for the Hawks came in the bottom of the seventh. Yachnin got on base off a bunt single before advancing to second on an error by the Thunder. After Gutsfeld was walked, both Yachnin and Gutsfeld stole bases, putting the Hawks in scoring position with runners on second and third. On a Paxson sac-fly, Yachnin scored for the Hawks, giving them their ultimate 7-6 victory.
