Ten-Goal First Quarter Propels Men's Lacrosse to Big NACC Win Over CUC

Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech men's lacrosse team knew they were taking on a scuffling Concordia Chicago team Wednesday evening at Stuart Field. But the Scarlet Hawks didn't take their foot off the gas pedal, as they overwhelmed the Cougars 10-1 in the first quarter en route to a 21-2 victory. The Hawks remained undefeated in NACC play at 5-0 and improved to 7-5 overall. The Cougars dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-6 in conference.

The Scarlet Hawks are tied with Aurora at 5-0 for first place in the NACC with three games remaining. Of the three games, the Hawks will face Aurora on Tuesday, April 23rd followed by their regular season finale with third-place Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, April 27th.

Zane Handy, the Scarlet Hawks former goalkeeper, was the offensive hero of the game for Illinois Tech, scoring 3 goals and assisting on 2 others.

First Quarter (Illinois Tech 10 - CUC 1)
Just over two minutes into the first quarter, the Scarlet Hawks and Cougars were even at 1-1. But that would be as close as the team from River Forest would get, as the Hawks scored the next 9 goals of the quarter to take a 10-1 lead. 9 different Scarlet Hawks tallied goals in the opening quarter, including Diego Sosa with a pair of goals. 

Second Quarter (Illinois Tech 5 - CUC 0)
The Hawks would tally five more times in the second quarter, extending their goal-scoring streak to 14 in a row. Yano Porter had a pair of goals in the quarter, with Zane Handy, Sosa and Jonathan Vitale each scoring solo goals.

Third Quarter (Illinois Tech 1 - CUC 1)
After a high-scoring first half for the Scarlet Hawks, the two teams would play a low-scoring third quarter, with each team trading a goal. CUC's Henry Hayes tacked on a goal at 9:19 of the second quarter. Handy would score his third goal of the match with 1:57 remaining in the quarter to give the Scarlet Hawks a 16-2 lead.

Fourth Quarter (Illinois Tech 5 - CUC 0)
The final frame was another 5-0 run for the Scarlet Hawks, with Reed Tangeman, Sosa, Jonathan Vitale, Jeremy Kruse and Porter each scoring solo goals.
