Men's Tennis Completes Perfect Conference Season With Senior Night Victory

Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech men's tennis team, hoping to finish with a perfect record in conference play, had one more date on the docket to achieve that goal: a Sunday evening match against Wisconsin Lutheran at the XS Tennis Center. Mission accomplished, as the Scarlet Hawks swept the Warriors 9-0 on Senior Night for the team. The Scarlet Hawks finished with a perfect 7-0 record in NACC play, and improved to 10-9 overall. The Warriors dropped to 3-4 in conference play, and to 5-11 overall.

With the victory, the Scarlet Hawks clinched the number one seed and a first-round bye in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference postseason tournament. 

Following the match, the team paid tribute to their graduating seniors with a senior night celebration on the court. Teammates, family and friends joined the celebration for Davis Housman, Nabil Fawaz, Allan Torres and Jordan Lauer.

Doubles Play (Illinois Tech 3 - Wisconsin Lutheran 0)
The Scarlet Hawks set the tone early in doubles play, with the number three team of Nabil Fawaz and Pol Dueso Guell getting the first match victory of the evening, 8-1. The number one team of Alann Torres and Davis Housman followed suit with an 8-3 victory. The number two doubles team of Jordan Lauer and Avneet Singh survived a late push from the Warriors to post an 8-5 victory to complete the doubles matches sweep.

Singles Play (Illinois Tech 6 - Wisconsin Lutheran 0)
Fawaz was also first to the finish line in singles play, taking his number three match 6-0, 6-1. Torres completed his match shortly thereafter with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in his number one match. Lauer was next, dispatching his opponent 6-0, 6-1 in the number six match. Housman then took down his opponent 6-1, 6-1 in the number two match. The number four and five matches rounded out the match sweep, with Dueso Guell winning 6-0, 6-3 in the number four match, and Eduardo Lopez battling before defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-3 in the number five match.

The NACC Men's Tennis tournament will begin on Tuesday, April 30th, starting with the quarterfinal matches for seeds 3-6. On Friday, May 3rd, Illinois Tech and number two seed, MSOE will host the winners of the quarterfinal matches in the semifinals, with the Scarlet Hawks drawing the lowest surviving seed. The NACC Men's Tennis Championship will be played on Sunday, May 5th in Kohler, Wisconsin.
