Martinez Scores 8 Times In Season Finale For Women's Lacrosse

Mequon, Wis. - Antonia Martinez capped off her final game of her very successful first season on the Illinois Tech women's lacrosse team with a nine-point performance on 8 goals and one assist, as the Scarlet Hawks fell in their 2024 season finale at Concordia Wisconsin 23-10.

Martinez needed just one goal in the match to reach the 50-goals mark for the season. Instead, the sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia scored eight times to finish with 57 goals, just three short of the team lead of 60 goals scored by Kelly Hitchcock.

Faith Busche closed out her last game as a Scarlet Hawk with 1 goal and 4 assists. For her collegiate career, Busche tallied 54 goals and 64 assists for 118 career points. She also recovered 96 ground balls, caused 37 turnovers and won 65 draw controls over her career.

Season Wrap-Up
The Scarlet Hawks conclude their 2024 campaign with a record of 3-12 overall, and 0-6 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

Antonia Martinez finished as the top point-producer on the team, scoring 75 points on the strength of 57 goals and 18 assists. In addition, she collected 30 ground balls, caused 11 turnovers and won 56 draw controls on the season.

Kelly Hitchcock led the team in goals scored with 60, despite missing the final two games. The 60 goals were second in conference, just behind Emma Raupp of Edgewood. Hitchcock also generated 126 draw controls, leading the conference with a 9.0 draw control per game average. Hitchcock was also first in the NACC in ground balls per game (5.64) and caused turnover per game (2.71). Hitchcock also achieved the 100 points scored and 100 goals scored milestones during the regular season. She now has 115 goals and 18 assists over her two-year collegiate playing career, to go with 136 ground balls and 254 draw controls.

In addition to Busche, also closing out their collegiate careers for the Scarlet Hawks were seniors Caitlin Davitt, Alison Yurchak, Kenza Afif, Nicole Cabezas and Mya Huddleston. 

Davitt, the Scarlet Hawks goalkeeper, finished with 463 total saves over her four-year playing career while recovering 77 ground balls.

Huddleston recovered 40 ground balls and caused 22 turnovers while scoring 9 points on 6 goals and 3 assists during her career.

Yurchak finishes her career with 21 points on 18 goals and 3 assists, including a career-high 12 goals scored during the 2023 season. She also recovered 31 ground balls with 5 caused turnovers.
