Baseball Falls in Rain Delayed NACC Tournament Game - Return to Action Tomorrow

Lisle, Ill. - On their first day of action in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Baseball Tournament, the No. 4 ranked Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks original start time of 1:00 PM got pushed back multiple times due to rainfall. Eventually, after multiple delays, the Hawks finally took the field to take on the No. 7-seeded Concordia University of Wisconsin (CUW) Falcons for an 8:00 PM first pitch in Game Two of the tournament. Unfortunately for the Hawks (23-17, 17-7), the weather delay did not play in their favor, as they fell to the Falcons (19-20, 12-12) 5-1.

The NACC Baseball Tournament in double elimination.

Concordia University Wisconsin 5 - Illinois Tech 1

  • Action between the two sides would begin slowly, with three scoreless innings to begin the game. In the top of the fourth, the Falcons scored the first run of the game when Cole Aquirre hit a single home run to right field. At the end of the fourth inning the Falcons led the Hawks 1-0.

  • The Falcons added one run in the top of the fifth when Sterling Armstrong doubled down the left field line, bringing in Kyle Flynn to make the game 2-0 in favor of the Falcons.

  • Continuing to extend their streak, the Falcons scored three runs in the top of the 6th inning. From a Connor Lasch single to third base, Jimmy Juergensen scored to take a 3-0 lead. Then, after a fly out, a Cody Maier double down the left field line brought in two Falcons, giving them a 5-0 lead over the Hawks at the end of the sixth inning.

  • The Hawks lone run of the game came during the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out and bases loaded, Matthew Bove hit a sac-fly to left field, bringing in Michael Lindenmuth. Unfortunately the Hawks were unable to bring in any more runs as they ultimately fell to the Falcons 5-1.
