Five Different Scarlet Hawks Score in Women’s Soccer Road Victory

Fond du Lac, Wis. – For a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) contest, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team traveled north to Wisconsin to take on the Marian University Sabres. Throughout the 90 minutes of action, five different Hawks found the back of the net, contributing to the Hawks (5-2-0, 2-0) victory over the Sabres (3-5-1, 0-1-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Caitie Chismarich opened the goal scoring in the 19th minute off an Eva Narvarte assist. Winning a loose ball, Narvarte flicked the ball over her head to face towards the goal. Taking on a defender 1v1, Narvarte saw Chismarich making a run into open space inside the 18-yard box. Narvarte passed the ball forward, allowing Chismarich to run onto the ball and place a one-touch, left footed shot into the opposite corner, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

  • Although the Hawks took 11 shots in the first half, Chismarich's goal would be the lone goal before halftime as the hawks led 1-0 at the 45-minute mark.

  • With second half action underway, the Hawks scored four times off 14 shots.

  • The Hawks would get back-to-back goals at the 51st and 52nd minute mark to take a 3-0 lead. Amelia Moseman scored in the 51st minute off a Kayla Smith assist. Receiving the ball in the Hawks offensive half, Smith took her defender on 1v1 while pushing forward towards the goal. With her speed, Smith ran past her defender, before playing an over-top ball to the far post inside the 6-yard box. Running into the box was Moseman, getting her head on the ball and redirecting it into the back of the net.

  • One minute later, the Hawks added another to their lead. Starting with the ball out of their own box at the feet of Sarah Thomas, the Hawks built possession up the field. Once in their offensive half, Moseman switched the field, passing the ball across to Smith. Smith, now inside the 18-yard box, took her defender on 1v1, cutting towards the inside of the goal, before dropping the ball back towards the top center of the 18-yard box to a wide-open Allison Murray. Murray took a one-touch, right footed shot, shooting the ball low and into the bottom left corner, putting the Hawks ahead 3-0.

  • In the 68th minute, freshman Hannah Ramos scored her first collegiate goal off a Kayla Thomas assist. Receiving the ball inside the top corner of the 18-yard box, K. Thomas pushed towards the goal, beating her defender with speed. Spotting Ramos making a run to the top of the 6-yard box, K. Thomas laid the ball off to Ramos who took a one-touch, right footed shot, firing the ball right past the Sabres goalkeeper.

  • The Hawks 5th and final goal was scored by Kaitlyn Walsh in the 70th minute. Receiving the ball inside the 18-yard box, Walsh juked her two defenders to cut back inside towards the goal. With just enough space between her and the defender, Walsh ripped off a right footed shot towards goal. The Sabres goalkeeper initially got a hand on the ball, but the shot was too powerful as it ricocheted off her hand and went into the back of the net.

  • Although the Hawks had a few more opportunities, the final whistle would blow, signaling the end of the game with the Hawks winning 5-0.
