Late Goal, Huge Save Propel Men's Soccer to 1-1 Road Draw At Alma

Tomas Rebelatto of Illinois Tech Men's Soccer
Box Score Alma, Mich. - Devin Zakeri scored a late goal in the 85th minute, and Adam Falcigno made a huge save on a penalty kick with 36 seconds remaining, helping the Scarlet Hawks to a 1-1 draw against the Alma Scots in a non-conference road match Wednesday afternoon in Michigan. With the tie, the Scarlet Hawks move to 5-1-2 on the season. The Scots move to 6-2-1.

How It Happened
  • Alma got on the board first, with Ethan Swartzentruber scoring unassisted at 12:27 of the first half to give the Scots a 1-0 lead they would hold for the majority of the match.
  • With the clock winding down to under five minutes to play, the Scarlet Hawks leading goal-scorer, Devin Zakeri, found the back of the net for his 7th goal on the season, tying the score at 1-1 at 85:12.
  • With 36 seconds remaining in the match, the Scarlet Hawks were whistled for a foul inside the penalty area, resulting in an Alma penalty kick opportunity. Swartzentruber of Alma went to the line to attempt the potential game-winning kick, in what would have been his second goal of the match. But Swartzentruber's kick was denied by the Scarlet Hawks starting goalkeeper, Adam Falcigno, preserving the comeback draw for Illinois Tech
