Kohler, Wis. – Beginning the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) season, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's tennis team traveled north to take on the Lakeland University Muskies at Sports Core. Both teams entered the match looking for their first win of the season as they both fell in their non-conference season openers. It would be the Hawks (1-1, 1-0) who ended up on top, claiming their first victory of the season, as they defeated the Muskies (0-2, 0-1) 7-0.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

DOUBLES: ILLINOIS TECH 3 – LAKELAND 0 

• No. 1 Doubles pair Martyna Kalinowska and Hannah Markiewicz won their match 6-1.  

• Angelica Conwell and Paige Geiger picked up a 6-4 victory in No. 2 Double.  

• In the No. 3 Doubles match, Ashley Dame and Rhea Karumuru won by default.  

SINGLES: ILLINOIS TECH 4 – LAKELAND - 0 

• Kalinowska won the No. 1 Singles match over Olivia Heling 6-1, 6-0 

• Markiewicz went 6-3, 6-0 to earn the match victory over Alexis Labonte in No. 2 Singles  

• At No. 3 Singles, Geiger secured the victory, defeating Emily Pautz 6-3, 6-1 

• Dame took the No. 4 Singles win over Mary Johnson after going 6-0, 6-2 

• Both Conwell and Karumuru earned wins by default at No. 5 Singles and No. 6 Singles respectively

The Hawks will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday September 8th, when they travel along with the men's tennis team to take on Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, Ind. The non-conference match will begin at 11:00 AM
