Swimming & Diving Scores Top Performances At Illinois Wesleyan Triangular Meet

Bloomington, Ill. - The Illinois Tech swimming and diving team came away with several top performances at the Illinois Wesleyan Triangular this past Saturday, finishing with nine first-place event finishes, along with a dominating men's team victory over the host Titans.

In total, the Scarlet Hawks came away with nine first-place finishes(4 women's/5 men's), 10 second-place finishes(2 women's/8 men's) and nine third-place finishes(1 women's/8 men's) in the tri-meet competition with Illinois Wesleyan and Carthage College. The Hawks men's team also came away with a 220-36 victory over Illinois Wesleyan in their head-to-head matchup.

From an individual standpoint, Claire van Biljon and Bjarne van Oord were the top performers for the women's and men's teams, respectively. 

van Biljon won all three of her individual events, and also broke a pool record, in the Scarlet Hawks triangular meet at Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday. van Biljon opened her meet performance by winning the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.05. Later in the meet, van Biljon won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 52.41, setting a new Illinois Wesleyan pool record that had been previously set in 2015. van Biljon capped of her afternoon with a first-place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.83.

van Oord won two individual events, including setting a pool record, took second place in another individual event, and was a leg on a second-place relay team in the Scarlet Hawks triangular meet at Illinois Wesleyan this past Saturday. van Oord took first place in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 50.57, breaking the previous Illinois Wesleyan pool record. van Oord followed that up by winning the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.92. van Oord also took second place in the 200 yard IM, and was the opening swimmer in the Scarlet Hawks second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a team time of 1:29.34.

The Scarlet Hawks will be preparing for their final meet of the regular season, when they host Lake Forest College on Saturday, February 1st at 1:00 PM. It will also be Senior Day, and a Pack The Pool meet. All Scarlet Hawk fans are encouraged to come out and support Illinois Tech swimming and diving as they honor this year's departing seniors. This will also be the last meet for the team before they travel to Racine, Wisconsin for the Liberal Arts Conference Championships February 12th through the 15th.
