Swimming & Diving Achieves Success Against Tough Competition At UChicago Triangular

Chicago, Ill. — Illinois Tech swimming and diving faced a competitive field on Saturday at the UChicago Triangular, with standout performances from several swimmers against the University of Chicago and Wheaton College.

Men's swimming & diving came away with a split in their double-duals, defeating Wheaton College 154-135 while falling to 4th-ranked UChicago 214-69. The women's swimming and diving team dropped both contests, losing 177-99 to Wheaton College and 205-70 to 8th-ranked UChicago.

Meet Summary

Men's Swimming & Diving

The men's team achieved solid results in their meet against Wheaton College (Ill.) and the University of Chicago, showcasing competitive times in various events. Senior Don Rose emerged as a top performer, clinching first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 52.18. Aidan Chance played a critical role for Illinois Tech, finishing third in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and placing fifth in the 100 Yard Backstroke at 53.99 seconds. He also contributed to Illinois Tech's second-place finish in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 2:47.05. Freshman Zeng Wye Liew impressed in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, securing third place with a time of 58.61, while also achieving a runner-up finish in the 200 Yard IM at 1:57.85.

Eli Riegler, a sophomore, placed fifth in the 200 Yard Freestyle and third in the 500 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 5:00.18. Additionally, in diving, Swun Tun and Colin Schultz finished closely in the 3-meter event, securing third and fourth places with scores of 155.40 and 154.75, respectively. The Scarlet Hawks men's team showcased depth and competitive spirit across various events.

Women's Swimming & Diving

The women's team had notable performances throughout the meet. Claire van Biljon secured two runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events, while Taryn Oser distinguished herself by taking second place in the Women's 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:12.59 and finishing third in the 200-yard breaststroke. The relay teams also showcased their strength, with the A team placing third in both the 200-yard medley relay (1:28.67) and the 400-yard freestyle relay, featuring contributions from van Biljon, Kayla Matsumoto, Elishka Janout, and Kristen Hampton.

Kayla Matsumoto had a notable meet, finishing third in the 200-yard backstroke and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.73. Kristen Hampton contributed significantly, securing fourth place in the 200-yard backstroke and participating in the third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Additionally, Bianca Perez competed in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing fifth with a time of 12:06.38, and Aislinn McManus placed fifth in the 1-meter diving event, highlighting the team's depth across disciplines. Grace Kolody also made her mark with a fourth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:53.41. Overall, Illinois Tech's efforts throughout the UChicago Triangular showcased depth and competitive spirit across multiple events.
