Kayla Thomas scored twice, as Illinois Tech women's soccer overwhelmed Rockford University with a commanding 17-0 victory on the road at Sam Greeley Field.
Illinois Tech holds a record of 16-1-1 overall and remains undefeated in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play at 12-0-0. The Regents fall to 1-17-0 overall and 0-12-0 in conference play. The Scarlet Hawks finish the regular season with the number one seed in the NACC Women's Soccer post-season tournament, and will host eighth-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran in their opening round match on Sunday, November 2nd, at 3:00 p.m. at Stuart Field.
Illinois Tech began the first half with strong offensive momentum, opening the scoring early in the third minute when
Kayla Thomas found the net with an assist from
Allison Murray. The team continued to press, and
Kayla Smith capitalized on a penalty kick in the 14th minute to double the lead. Illinois Tech maintained control with Thomas adding another goal in the 22nd minute, assisted by
Kelly Hitchcock.
Kaitlyn Walsh extended the lead further with a goal at the 30th minute, assisted by
Taylor Hernandez, followed by
Avery Sealey's goal just two minutes later. The scoring onslaught continued as Walsh and Hernandez each added to the tally, closing the half with Illinois Tech leading 7-0.
Illinois Tech dominated the second half, quickly extending their lead with a goal by
Hannah Ramos, assisted by Smith and Murray, in the 49th minute.
Tvesa Vathulya added another goal shortly after, followed by Hitchcock scoring with an assist from Smith. The visitors continued to press, resulting in goals from Walsh and
Joanne Porter, the latter assisted by Smith, bringing the score to 12-0.
Gabrielle West and Hernandez found the back of the net, with Hernandez scoring twice in quick succession.
Rachael Fujimori and Hernandez further increased the lead with assists from Porter and
Abby Cooley, respectively. Illinois Tech concluded the half with a commanding 17-0 victory over the Regents.
