Women's Tennis Sweeps Wisconsin Lutheran For 6-0 NACC Start

Chicago, Ill. - With a first-place showdown on tap at conference foe Edgewood on Sunday morning, the Illinois Tech women's tennis team wanted to ensure they focused on the task at hand in their home match against Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday afternoon. The Scarlet Hawks did just that, sweeping the Warriors 7-0 to improve to 6-1 overall and 6-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play. The Warriors fell to 1-5 overall and in NACC play.

In a departure from previous matches, the Scarlet Hawks got out of the gate strong, winning all three doubles matches to earn the lone doubles team point and set the tone for the rest of the afternoon. The Hawks' number two doubles team of Maddalena Elisa Rosati Dumangane and Maia Lecouna Ramos won the first match 6-1 over the Warriors' Amelia Kelley and Sophia Schroeder. Illinois Tech's number one doubles team of Martyna Kalinowska and Thea Salcedo were next to the winner's circle, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran's Maddy Olson and Joelle Smith 6-1 to clinch the team doubles point. The Hawks' Paige Geiger and Angelica Conwell put the finishing touches on doubles play by winning their number three match 6-2 over the Warriors' Lexi Yerges and Addie Prochazka.

The Scarlet Hawks carried the momentum of their team doubles victory into singles play, taking all six matches. Lecouna Ramos secured the Hawks' first singles point with her 6-0, 6-4 victory over Prochazka in the number four singles match. Kalinowska added to the Hawks lead with her 6-1, 6-1 victory over Olson in the number one singles match. With Illinois Tech needing only one more singles victory to secure the 4th and deciding team point, it was Salcedo who earned the clincher, winning her number three singles match 6-1, 6-1 over Kelley. The Hawks didn't settle for just the four points however, as they swept the remaining matches for the 7-0 team victory. Rosati Dumangane defeated the Warriors' Smith 6-1, 6-0 in the number two singles match, followed by Geiger winning 6-4, 6-0 over Schroeder in the number five match. Conwell capped off the match with her 6-3-, 6-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran's Lucia Gallardo Marto, 6-3, 6-0.
