The game kicked off with a bang as
Garrison Carter drained a 3-pointer, thanks to an assist from
John Davis III, just 17 seconds into play. Carter shone brightly, racking up 16 points in the first half, nailing four 3-pointers, with the last one dropping at 1:25, boosting Illinois Tech to a 44-36 lead. The Hornets buzzed close early, with Carter Bandemer's layup at 9:18 trimming the gap to one. Yet, Illinois Tech surged ahead, closing the half with a 46-36 lead, helped by two clutch three point field goals by Carter, the first of which pushed him over 1000 points in his career.
In the second half, the Scarlet Hawks attempted to hold their edge, with Davis III sinking a 3-pointer at 19:08 to widen the gap. Kalamazoo's Lucas Hanifan sparked his squad with a series of layups, that lead to a run that brought them within two at the 16:43 mark, causing Illinois Tech to call a timeout. Carter, Davis III and Shoto then teamed up, propelling the home team to a 13-point lead with under eight minutes left. Despite a late push from Kalamazoo, highlighted by a Bandemer 3-pointer at 1:38, Illinois Tech sealed the deal with a fast-break layup by Davis III, wrapping it up at 91-83.
