Chicago, Ill. - Coming off a come-from-behind road match win at Rose-Hulman last Saturday, the Illinois Tech men's tennis team was looking to push their winning streak to three matches when they hosted Roosevelt University for a late-night non-conference match Friday night at the XS Tennis Center. The Scarlet Hawks again fell behind 1-0 after doubles play as they did last week, but on this night the Lakers would take four of the six singles matches to earn the 5-2 match victory. The Scarlet Hawks fell to 2-3 on the season. The Lakers improved to 6-1.
In doubles play, all three Scarlet Hawk pairings were competitive, but neither group could pull out a match victory. The number two pairing ofÂ
Pedro Caroa-Accino Roca and
Hozumi Tada were the closest, falling 6-4 in their match. The number one team of
Alexander Feher and
Avneet Singh and the number three team of
Pol Dueso Guell and
Eduardo Lopez each dropped their doubles matches by 6-3 scores, giving the Lakers the one doubles point to take the early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the Lakers earned two more match points when they won the number two and four singles matches to build a 3-0 lead. Dueso Guell would get the Scarlet Hawks on the board when he won his number five singles match 6-4, 6-3, cutting the Hawks' match deficit to 3-1. For Dueso Guell, the win extended his singles play winning streak to three consecutive matches. Roosevelt would regroup and claim the next two singles matches in three sets in the number two and six matches, giving the Lakers a 5-1 advantage to claim the overall match victory. Roca of the Scarlet Hawks would close out the match with a three-set victory in the number one singles match, 7-5, 6-7(3-7), 7-6(7-3), to give the Hawks their final point of the match for the final score of 5-2, advantage Lakers. For Roca, his singles win was his second consecutive singles match victory since moving into the number one singles position last week.
