Women's Tennis Defeated By DePauw In Spring Break Opener

Hilton Head Island, S.C. - Playing in their first match since the middle of October, the Illinois Tech women's tennis team took on DePauw University Monday afternoon in the opener of their spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolin. The Tigers were too tough to tame on this day, as they blanked the Scarlet Hawks 7-0. The Hawks fell to 4-7 on the season. The Tigers improved to 3-7.

The Scarlet Hawks were hampered by playing one player short in the match, having to forfeit the number three doubles match and the number six singles match.

In double play, the number one pairing of Hannah Markiewicz and Martyna Kalinowska had the best go of it, pushing the Tigers' number one double team of Ellen Gardner and Kassie Green before eventually falling 6-4. Angelica Conwell and Paige Geiger paired up for the number two doubles team, and lost their match 6-0.

In singles play, Conwell had the best performance of the five Scarlet Hawks, taking two games in each of her sets in the number five singles match, but falling 6-2, 6-2. Kalinowska won a single game in her 6-0, 6-1 loss in the number one singles match, while Markiewicz won a single game in her 6-1, 6-0 loss in the number two singles match. Ashley Dame saw her seven-match singles winning streak end, as she fell 6-0, 6-0 in the number four singles match.
