Men's Tennis Takes 2 Of 3 Matches On Spring Break Trip

Hilton Head Island, S.C. - After opening their spring break trip on Monday with a 6-1 victory over The College of Wooster, the Scarlet Hawks had a pair of matches remaining to close out their stay at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. On Wednesday morning, the Scarlet Hawks fell to DePauw University 6-1 before rebounding with a 7-0 victory over Stevenson University on Thursday morning. The Scarlet Hawks finished their week winning two of three matches, and improved to 4-7 overall on the season.

Eduardo Lopez finished as the top performer for the Scarlet Hawks for the week, winning all three of his singles matches and two of three of his doubles matches. 

DePauw 6 - Illinois Tech 1 (Wednesday, 3/19)
  • Doubles Play: The Scarlet Hawks were shut out in doubles play, losing all three matches and the solo doubles point. Avneet Singh and Alexander Feher fell in the number one doubles match to the Tigers' Finley Buelte and Will Cramer, 1-6. In the number two match, the Hawks' Hozumi Tada and Pedro Caroa-Accino Roca lost to Roee Sela and Teagen Crow, 5-7. And Lopez and doubles partner Pol Dueso Guell lost their number three doubles match 2-6 to Jake Louiselle and Scott Anderson.
  • Singles Play: Lopez earned the only Scarlet Hawks victory on the day, as he defeated the Tigers' Sela 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) in the number five singles match. The Tigers won the other five singles matches to claim the overall match victory, 6-1, but not before some tough battles from the Hawks. In the number one singles match, Roca dropped his match to Buelte 4-6, 4-6. In the number two match, Feher fell 3-6, 6-7 (4-7). Cramer defeated Dueso Guell 6-3, 6-1 in the number three singles match. In the number four singles match, Tada lost 3-6, 3-6 to the Tigers' Samuele Pia. In the number six match, Singh lost to Louiselle, 0-6, 2-6. 

Illinois Tech 7 - Stevenson 0 (Thursday, 3/20)
  • Doubles Play: It was a clean sweep for the Scarlet Hawks in their doubles matches with the Mustangs, earning them the lone doubles point. Singh and Feher won their number one doubles match against Luke Appleman and Simeon Smith, 6-3. Roca and Tada won their number two doubles match, 6-0 over Dominic Duncan and Nate Kelly. And in the number three doubles match, Lopez and Dueso Guell downed Delano Sagne Mengo and Nickolas Valis, 6-0. 
  • Singles Play: The Hawks swept all of their singles matches as well against the Mustangs, starting with Roca's 6-0, 6-2 victory over Appleman in the number one singles match. Feher defeated Smith 6-0, 6-2 in the number two singles match. Dueso Guell was a 6-1, 6-0 victor over Duncan in the number three singles match. Tada blanked Kelly in the number four singles match, 6-0, 6-0. Lopez also swept his number five singles match against Mengo, 6-0, 6-0. The Hawks Tejas Sheth defeated the Mustangs' Valis 6-1, 6-1 in the number six singles match. Sheth won both of his singles matches on the trip, including his match on Monday against the College of Wooster.
Up Next
The Scarlet Hawks were originally scheduled to be hosting Lakeland University this Saturday afternoon, but that match was rescheduled at the request of Lakeland to April 10th at 7:00pm. The Hawks however will resume Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play this Sunday morning, when they travel to Milwaukee for a conference match with MSOE starting at 10:00am.
