Women's Lacrosse Scores Season-High In Goals At Elmhurst

Elmhurst, Ill. - With Illinois Tech women's lacrosse having a hard time finding the back of the net in the early stages of the season, it was a welcome sign that the offense put up eight goals in their road match at Elmhurst Tuesday night. The host Bluejays got the early jump on the Scarlet Hawks, who were unable to come back despite the season-high output and lost 15-8. The Hawks fell to 0-5. The Bluejays improved to 2-1.

Illinois Tech stayed even with Elmhurst in the second quarter, and outscored the Bluejays in the fourth quarter. Antonia Martinez continued to pace the Illinois Tech offense, scoring four goals in the contest. Martinez now has nine goals on the season.

After falling behind 4-0, the Scarlet Hawks got on the board at the 3:04 mark of the opening quarter when Isabelle Niebler scored her second goal of the season to cut the deficit to 4-1. A goal by Elmhurst's Hannah Jacob in the closing seconds of the quarter gave the Bluejays a 5-1 lead after one quarter. Elmhurst would score four of the first five goals in the second quarter to extend their lead seven at 9-2, the Hawks closed out the quarter scoring the last three goals, including a pair of goals by Iona Pettigrew, to pull within four goals at 9-5.

The Bluejays regrouped in the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 4-0 to open up a 13-5 lead. Just over one minute into the fourth quarter, the Scarlet Hawks' Ellie Post scored her first career goal during a player up sequence.
