Men's Tennis Continues Winning Ways With Road Victory At St. Norbert

De Pere, Wis. - After falling behind 1-0 after doubles play in their match at St. Norbert Sunday afternoon, the Illinois Tech men's tennis team regrouped to claim all six singles matches en route to a 6-1 match victory over the Green Knights. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 4-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play, won their fifth consecutive match, and clinched a spot in the NACC Men's Tennis tournament in the process. The Hawks also moved over .500 overall for the first time this season, improving their overall record to 9-8. The Green Knights fell to 3-3 in NACC play and to 5-13 overall.

The Scarlet Hawks have one more conference match remaining to determine their final seeding for the conference tournament. They have an outside shot at claiming the number one seed but can finish no lower then the third seed, depending on their outcome at Concordia Chicago this Wednesday, and the result of the MSOE match at Concordia Wisconsin on Wednesday.

The Scarlet Hawks found themselves trailing 1-0 in the match after the Green Knights took two of three doubles matches to claim the lone doubles point. The Hawks lone doubles win came in the number two match, when Pedro Caroa-Accino Roca and Hozumi Tada won their match 6-0 against the Green Knights Nolan Pearson and Charlie Keller. Alexander Feher and Avneet Singh suffered a 6-2 loss in their number one doubles match, and Pol Dueso Guell and Eduardo Lopez lost 6-2 in their number three doubles match.

But the Scarlet Hawks turned things around in singles play, winning all six matches to claim the 6-1 overall match victory. Roca won his fifth consecutive singles match with a 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) win over Brett Daniels in the number one singles match. Feher also won his fifth consecutive singles match, downing Jackson Harpt 6-2, 6-3 in the number two singles match. Pol Dueso Guell extended his singles winning streak to seven matches with his 7-5, 6-1 victory over Keller in the number three singles match. Tada has now strung together seven consecutive singles match victories, defeating Pearson 6-1, 6-3 in the number four singles match. Lopez extended his team-leading singles winning stream to eight matches when he defeated the Green Knights' Brian Coulter 6-2, 6-1 in the number five singles match. And Singh completed his fifth singles match victory in a row with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of St. Norbert's Joe Pellechia in the number six singles match.
