Racine, Wis. - With the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Women's Tennis postseason tournament coming up at the end of the month, the Illinois Tech women's tennis team traveled into Wisconsin Sunday afternoon for a non-conference tuneup match against Carthage College. The Firebirds were too tough to handle on this day, defeating the Scarlet Hawks 6-1. Illinois Tech fell to 5-9 on the season. The Firebirds improved to 9-7.
First-year
Martyna Kalinowska won the only match for the Scarlet Hawks, winning her number one singles match against Carthage's Sasha Manojlovic 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5). Kalinowska and teammate
Hannah Markiewicz also put up a good battle in their number one doubles match before falling 6-4 to Sasha Manojlovic and Niki Manojlovic.Â
Markiewicz had a competitive match in her number two singles match against Greta Peterson, winning seven games before falling 6-4, 6-3.
Ashley Dame, after dropping her first set in the number four singles match 6-0, took four games in the second set before falling 6-4.
Graduate student
Marta Oscoz, playing in her first collegiate match, lost her number six singles match 6-0, 6-1 to Larissa Ishikawa. Oscoz and Dame won two games in their number three doubles loss to Victoria Rizzo and Madisen Berglund, 6-2.

Although there is a possibility another pre-tournament match is scheduled for the Scarlet Hawks, the next time the team is scheduled to take the court will be on Tuesday, April 29th, when they host Concordia Wisconsin at 1:00 PM at the XS Tennis Center in the opening round of the NACC Women's Tennis Conference Tournament.
