Women's Tennis Sweeps Concordia Chicago - Improves to 4-0 In NACC Play

River Forest, Ill. - The Illinois Tech women's tennis team traveled to Concordia Chicago Tuesday afternoon for a mid-week conference clash with the Cougars. The Scarlet Hawks were able to reverse the recent trend of falling behind after doubles play, winning all three doubles matches for the early 1-0 match lead, and then sweeping singles play for a dominant 7-0 match victory. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 4-1 overall, and 4-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play. The Cougars fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in conference.

In doubles play, the number two team of Maddalena Elisa Rosati Dumangane and Maie Lecuona Ramos tamed the Cougars' Hannah Upole and Kathleen Castillo 6-0 to give the Scarlet Hawks an early 1-0 doubles lead. Shortly thereafter, the Hawks' number three team of Angelica Conwell and Paige Geiger blanked CUC's Arriyanna Amison and Sarah Gustafson 6-0 to give Illinois Tech a 2-0 doubles lead, and clinching the lone doubles point. Illinois Tech's number one team of Martyna Kalinowska and Thea Salcedo had a slightly tougher battle against the Cougars' Amirah Shakir and Amelia Engelman before eventually pulling away 6-2.

With the doubles point in the bag, the Scarlet Hawks set their sights on clinching the match in singles competition. Lecuona Ramos gt things started for the Hawks with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Upole in the number four singles match. Geiger followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over CUC's Amison in the number five match. With the Hawks' Conwell winning her number six singles match against the Cougars' Courtneye Schneider 6-2, 6-0, Illinois Tech won their fourth point to clinch the match victory. Kalinowska had an extended battle in the first set with CUC's Engelman in the number one singles match before putting away her opponent 6-3, 6-0. The Hawks' number two and three singles players of Rosati Dumangane and Salcedo, respectively, had delayed starts due to the four-court configuration at the CUC tennis courts and having to wait for finished matches. Once their courts were available, Rosati Dumangane quickly dispatched Concordia Chicago's Shakir 6-0, 6-0, with Salcedo completing the match sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Cougars' Castillo.

  • Rosati Dumangane improved to 4-1 in number two singles play, with a 4-0 record in NACC play
  • Salcedo improved to 4-1 in number three singles play, and also has a 4-0 record in conference play
