Women's Volleyball Nets Road Win At Andrews

Berrien Springs, Mich. — Illinois Tech women's volleyball (2-6) swept Andrews University (1-9) in straight sets on Wednesday at Beaty Gym, winning 25-15, 25-10, 25-12, with Illinois Tech serving up 16 aces to secure the victory.

Illinois Tech opened the first set with a service error, giving Andrews an early 1-0 lead. However, the Scarlet Hawks quickly found momentum, largely thanks to Karla Trautman Mendez, who scored four kills in the set, contributing to an 8-4 lead. Rowan Midgette facilitated the offense with multiple assists, including a service ace that extended the lead to 15-7. Despite some service errors from Illinois Tech, Andrews struggled to capitalize, with Illinois Tech's Taryn Jones closing the set with two consecutive service aces to secure a 25-15 victory.

In the second set, Illinois Tech secured a decisive 25-10 victory. The set began with Illinois Tech capitalizing on an attack error by Fiorella Oudri, leading to an early advantage. Anna Sebastio's service ace further extended their lead. The match saw Illinois Tech's Lilia Donaldson contribute significantly with three consecutive service aces during a dominant stretch, pushing the score to 22-7. Midgette orchestrated multiple plays, including assists that facilitated key kills by Taryn Jones and Karla Leonte. Despite a late service ace by Sienna Mellish for Andrews, Illinois Tech maintained control, closing out the set with a final point off an attack error by Oudri from Andrews.

Illinois Tech opened the third set against Andrews with an early lead, capitalizing on an attack error by Laura Oliveira. Andrews briefly tied the score at 2-2, but Illinois Tech responded with a series of successful plays, including kills by Taryn Jones and Ana Jones, both assisted by Veronica Lopez. Illinois Tech expanded their lead to 12-4, driven by a string of points from Leonte, who delivered three consecutive service aces. Maya Zinkiewicz's entry further bolstered Illinois Tech's performance, contributing a service ace and forcing errors from Andrews' players. Illinois Tech concluded the set with a commanding 25-12 victory, highlighted by a final block from Donaldson.
